do bake with your kids.

do buy james beard cookbooks at thrift stores.

do try new recipes.

do incorporate whole grains.

don’t let your bread rise too long.

don’t preheat your oven with unbaked dough sitting on top.

don’t ignore the burning smell in your oven, even if your bread has only been baking for 1/2 the recommended time.

don’t use old flour. because then you’ll be up half the night with horrible heartburn, wondering why your mouth tastes like the bread you ate 8 hours ago.

  1. I’m so glad you posted this. I had a baking fail the other day. I was tired of tiny loaves of bread and made a bigger loaf. It sprang up and looked lovely until I cut into it. It was goop in the middle. Then I tried to bake it longer and it grew out of the loaf and formed a dense, brick like grosses. It was terrible.

    That’s what I get for not adjusting and deciding to double things!
